Review: Gettysburg's Most Hellish Battleground by Dr. Phillip Thomas Tucker

Dr. Tucker in this newest book takes on the Gettysburg Battlefield. Gettysburg is known as one of the hellish battles in the American Civil War. Dr. Tucker includes multiple resources to the reader a thorough understanding of the topic. The maps, photographs, and graphics are a wonderful asset to the book and allows the reader to have a better grasp of the topic, people and war that would not be allowable with out it. He impressed me by going at this book from both sides of the war, not just the south or north prospective. He points out mistakes from both side an a big example of this is when he points out the staged photography the Union did in order to further the politics of their side of the fight to say they were righteous, stronger and better. “The savage combat that swirled through and around the giant boulders, ledges and crevices of Devil's Den and along the barren, rocky length of Houck's Ridge was some the most tenacious fighting at Gettysburg” I am glad I bought this book for my history bookshelf it was well worth the cost and the research that Dr. Tucker pours into his book makes this a potential research reference for my college kids or my school age grandchildren. The neutrality in the writing and reference it would not matter whether they were writing for the Union or Confederacy because both sides are covered in this book which is just another example of Dr. Tucker research for the history of not beliefs. This is a great addition to any research resource or even a history buff who enjoys reading about the American Civil War.
