Review : Slaying A Harpy by L.A. Matthies

Tristen, Billy, and Sasha transferred to Curtis Hall so their parents could enjoy peace of mind and their kids receive the best education while escaping the messy, complicated teen world of their hometown of Hibernia, New Jersey. Little did their parents know even though their kids received scholarships to a prestigious school they have stumbled unto secrets as well. The teens find themselves while starting to fit in at the elite boarding school they are faced with more dangers that the immortal vampires they have befriended. As one of them is cursed by a harpy mind control, one is blindsided by inexplicable love for a dangerous creature and the third is forced to be trained as a hunter in the hopes of saving his friends. Not everything is as it seems in this boarding school, with the fight between good and evil blurred who is going to survive the day or night.
L.A. Matthies writes a wonderful tale for young adults. The writing taking traditional tales such as Achilles, Vampires, and Harpies making them their own without taking the core elements of who the beings were in history. I enjoyed it because of the understanding of the facts prevalent in the writing. I would recommend for young adults as well as older adults because the characters are relate-able to all ages, everyone knows a Sasha, Tristen, and Billy.
