Design: 15" Lightsaber with Pattern

I honestly can not find a lightsaber crochet pattern that I would actually enjoy making and would be able to be enjoyed by all ages. I have grandchildren as young as 6 months and as old as 9 years old. I wanted something I could make and enjoy too as an adult.
First thing I had to think of was something that could work up fast and easy enough that anyone could follow. There were tons of advice on what others had done but none exactly to what I was looking for.
One thing was size. I wanted something that was about 15" long. Something long enough adults could sword fight with but small enough little hands could hold and swing.
Another thing to consider was guts. Lightsabers have to have a soft but firm form so I decided on wrapped and stitched plastic cross stitch sheets.
Then there was the switch. I decided on a plan black safety eye. Simple option and child safe option. The only thing left to consider was the type of crochet stitch, hook, and yarn. I love cotton yarn and making toys so I went with a G (4mm) hook and 100% Cotton Peaches and Cream Yarn. The fact the pattern only takes approximately 1/2 a skein for the blade and 1/4 skein to make the handle you can make it for little to no cost less than $6 in materials just time, frustration and love. This is a worthwhile pattern and I am glad to share it with you.
